Let me start by saying this board was not created with Dungeons and Dragons styled roleplaying in mind, but more like Round Robin. You take up the role of a character in the roleplay, and can only post from the perspective of your respective character, and control your actions. Your post must continue the story from the post above yours.
If you wish to create a more D&D or indepth roleplay of some kind, by all means do so. But it is your responsibility to state and manage what rules that specific roleplay must follow.
Creating a Roleplay:
1) Post a thread in the Set-Up subforum. Thread should share the title of your roleplay. The first post of this thread must contain a general synopsis, a setting, and a list of all the accepted users participating as well as what role they will be playing.
Joining a Roleplay:
1) Post your character in the set-up thread for the roleplay you wish to join. Make sure to fillout the form as specified by the dungeon master.
2) Don't bitch if they can't take you for some reason (such as the story being too far in development) or your character is rejected because it doesn't fit the criteria.
Participating in a Roleplay:
1) Don't GodMod. I hate GodMod.
2) You can only control your character. You can hint at and perform minor interactions with other characters (for instance, attacking them in combat) but it is left to the recipient to determine how badly they were hurt.
3) Play fair. Sometimes it's more fun if you let your character take a fatal blow.
