Lost Butterfly
Fluttering in the moonlight,
A lost butterfly cried a single tear.
The stars glimmered in the moonlit sky,
The moon so full, never had it seemed so near.
Once the night had been so great,
A welcomed time of day.
But then the time of trials came,
A time of sorrow, a time of solitude... in which she had no say.
Her blue wings glowed heavenly,
But no one was there to see.
Loneliness... suffering... and pain...
Was this the way it had to be?
Fluttering without a way,
Unsure which way to go,
Not a soul for company,
Why was it always so?
Such a kind and gentle heart,
Wanting no more than to please.
A need to belong, a desire to be cared for,
But never a chance to seize.
The field of flowers empty,
Not a friend in sight,
What could one so lonely do,
But sadly continue her flight?
She made friends along the way,
But none of them so true.
Using her, abusing her,
Then abandoning her so blue.
Not a family member cared,
To fly along beside,
To lend a helping wing or ear,
To let her share what's inside.
In the darkest hours of the night,
Nothing ever seemed so right,
Always wrong, always bad,
But she could not give up the fight.
She thought of death, and she thought of life,
To end her suffering, and to end her pain...
Death it seemed, could be the way,
For what left was there left to gain?
But through it all, she would not give up,
With everlasting faith and hope.
There had to be reason, there had to be purpose.
And with determination, she had to cope.
For in her aching heart she knew,
Out there, somewhere,
There was someone, someone ever so rare
Someone out there who must careā¦
So high into the sky she flew,
Toward the setting sun and rising moon
With her pure heart full of hope anew,
Singing her song and humming her tune.
Far away, without a way,
Far into the skies of grey,
She flies high into the sky,
With all the tears she cries gone dry.
She does not know why, why she tries,
But on in the sky she flies,
On flies the Lost Butterfly.
Fluttering in the moonlight,
A lost butterfly cried a single tear.
