I know it's short, but it's something. More later.

Kestra and Athromir looked at each other somberly, flames illuminating sections of otherwise dark faces. Clouds hung low over their campsite, hiding even the moon; Kestra was sure they were caused by Athromir's mood. She stood up suddenly, and looked to the silhouette of a nearby mountain peak.
"We need a plan. A course of action. We need to get him back."
"How? He's invulnerable to your weapons, and my magic pales in comparison."
Kestra sat down again, resting her head on a fist in a classic thinking position.
"We need a team," she whispered quietly, "if we want to best him."
"And where do you propose we find one of those?" Athromir's response was cold and full of doubt; he looked up and parted the clouds with a few words to admire the stars.
"We can head out tonight. Baluin isn't but a day's ride away. I'm sure the merc boards are still there, and I have some contacts from the old days. We can get ourselves organized and hit that bastard hard. He'll regret ever coming here. What about you?"
"I'll have to head back to the old country, see if any of my friends are still there. No idea what it's like since the schism. I don't keep many contacts," Athromir said as he looked back into the fire, the clouds resuming their positions.
"It's settled, then. We'll head out in the morning."
With that, Kestra left for the now-emptier tent. She contemplated packing up Daniel's things, but settled for just his valuables. As she carefully set the specialized ammunition, daggers, and the locket he never opened in a small bag that she placed within her own. They would have to leave the other, replaceable things here. She set the bag next to her own cot and settled in, only to hear Athromir enter the tent.
"We'll get him," she said reassuringly, "don't worry."
"I know we will," Athromir responded, "I know."
