The 13th part to Ashley Mott. This is also the ending, but there will be an epilogue! I hope you enjoyed the story and I promise that a new story by me will be posted soon enough!
The five of us started through the halls, most of the armies were on the planet searching for me. Everything was a dull grey color and the lighting was poor. Redfield gave a signal for us to stop moving. He pulled up the schematics of the space station on his computer. After studying it, he turned to us.
“Alright guys, we have to split up here. Ashley, I want you, Joel, Dr. Kelley, and the alien guy to continue down this hallway and after seven doors, take a left and follow that hallway. You will come to a large door; that is where Grantuun is. I will go to the control room and make sure this goes down.” Captain Redfield said to us as we studied the schematics on the holoscreen.
“Why don’t we all go crash the ship?” Dr. Kelley asked.
“Grantuun fear that Ashley is the only one who can take them out. All of you will be able to distract them while I make my way to the control room to destroy this space station. When the alarm sounds, you stop what your doing and get the hell to the fighter we came in here on. Understood?”
“Yes sir,” Dr. Kelley and Joel said at the same time.
“Yes,” I said.
“I will not fail you,” Yargnam said.
“Alright, lets move out,” Redfield said before he went invisible.
Yargnam lead the way, Joel is too injured and we don’t want to lose the doctor. We counted the seven doors down the hall and entered. This hallway was brighter than the rest and twice as large.
“We must be going the right way,” Dr. Kelley said, marveling at the large size of the hall.
“It’s like its fit for a king,” Joel said.
“Or a cult leader,” Dr. Kelley replied. A little smile slipped across my face as we crept down the hall. We came to a large door at the end. Cautiously opening it, the four of us went in. The room was large with windows, purple decorations, and a throne in the middle. A human sat in the throne. He was of medium build, long brown hair, and sophisticated looking clothes. He stood up and looked at me.
“Well hello there, Ashley,” he said. His voice sounded calm and cold. “I guess you’re here to kill me.”
“Was it really that hard of a guess?” I said.
“Your right, it wasn’t that hard. I see you brought friends.”
“You know, the more the merrier,” I said, trying to hide my fear.
“An injured soldier, a doctor, and a dead alien, some party.” He said, walking over to us.
“He’s no dead,” I said, looking over to see if Yargnam was still standing.
“Oh really? Have you asked him how he escaped the explosion?” Grantuun said, looking over at Yargnam.
“Well, no.”
“Surprise! He didn’t!” Grantuun said.
“What’s he doing here then?” I asked.
“I brought him back.”
“What purpose would you have with him?” Dr. Kelley asked.
“You’ll find out,” Grantuun said.
“Enough of this shit!” Joel yelled. “Can’t we just kill him now?”
“I like that idea,” I said and held up my rifle. My finger squeezed the trigger and bullets hurled towards Grantuun. He held up a hand, a teal shield formed in front of him. I stopped firing.
“It can’t be true,” Yargnam said.
“What are you talking about?” I asked him.
“There have been rumors, but never evidence,” he said, “Grantuun is the one who created the Wereesh race.”
“Oh, now you’re starting to get it,” Grantuun said. “Your race hasn’t been around more than five years. I created you out of my power and gave each of you some of it.”
“You’re a human, how’d you get this power?” Dr. Kelley asked.
“I was a small child on Earth when it was destroyed. The radiation from the bombs somehow gave me long life and these powers. Not going to argue with fate though!” Grantuun explained. “So Yargnam, now do you see why the Wereesh follow me?”
“Yes,” Yargnam said, sounding like he knew it was the wrong thing. He started walking towards Grantuun. “I will do what you wish me to.”
“Excellent,” Grantuun said. “Go kill their Captain.”
“As you wish,” Yargnam said before teleporting away. My body tensed up and my gut suddenly felt empty. All chances of getting out of here alive are gone. I could tell Joel and Dr. Kelley is feeling the same way I am. Unless Redfield pulls something out of his ass, then we can win. A red light began to flash and a loud alarm began to sound.
“I really don’t fucking believe it,” Joel said.
“He did it!” Dr. Kelley exclaimed. Grantuun was caught off guard and looking around in disbelief. I looked over at Joel and Dr. Kelley.
“I want you two to start running towards the hangar, I’ll finish things here,” I said.
“Will you be alright?” Dr. Kelley said.
“Yes, now just go,” I said while I held up the rifle. I made sure the two of them got out the door before turning to face Grantuun. I turned, took aim, and fired the gun while he wasn’t looking. The sounds of the shots were muffled by the alarm, but Grantuun still heard them. He turned to me before the bullets met him, entering his flesh.
“I picked you because I didn’t think you would be able to kill me,” he said as he fell to his knees.
“I get the job done,” I said.
“I know that now,” he said. “But I can’t let you leave!” He held up his hand, I heard the large steel doors close behind me.
“I can open doors you know,” I said to him. Still holding his hand up, he shot concentrated flames from his hand and welded the doors shut. “Okay, now it’s problematic.”
“I hope its painful for you,” he said before falling forward, dead.
“Asshole,” I said while he died.
“Ashley!” Redfield’s voice said over the radio. “Can you hear this?”
“Yes,” I replied. “I’m trapped in his throne room, he’s dead.”
“We’re coming back for you,” he said.
“No, just go!” I said. “Goodbye.”
“Bye Ashley, I love you like a daughter,” Redfield said, tears were distorting his speech. I felt water grow in my eyes too. The alarm blared in my ears and the red light continued to flash. Knees giving out, I fell and tears rolled down my cheek and dripped on the floor. I closed my eyes and braced for the pain.
I got out my last words: “I loved you like a father.”
