So... this was another very quick revision... if you see anything that needs to be fixed, then just comment! The NEW! part will be posted soon, soo... YAY! hope you enjoy!
“So Captain, what’s the plan?” Lewis said as I braced myself against the pilot seat as the ship jerked back and forth.
“First, we get through this shit and once we’re on the planet, we have to find Matt Holly,” Captain said.
“Wait, that crazy guy? What good is he to us?” Lewis asked as a barrage from the plasma cannons on the UPDS ships came too close for comfort.
“We can’t get a hit on these fuckers! They’ve got goddamn shields somehow,” Stevens yelled from the turret. A teal colored shield formed like a bubble around all the ships. Teal shield, that’s it!
“We can have a shield too! Yargnam, help us out here,” I said. He got up and held his hands out. The fighter was then covered in the shield and it absorbed the rounds that would have been pummeling us into a bloody pile of scrap.
“I can’t keep this up for much longer,” Yargnam yelled up to the cockpit. Redfield’s face was struck with sudden concentration.
“Hold on, shits about to hit the fan,” he said and the ship thrust forward. I lost my balance and crashed on the floor. I slid backward across the ship and grabbed hold of Yargnam’s hairy leg to stop me. I climbed up, using his body to help me and made my way back to the cockpit. Looking out, I see nothing but the planet growing closer. The vastness of space is gone and the ships are behind us. We start the decent where the sun is just beginning to cover the ground. The sun peeking over the western horizon in the morning is a new sight for me.
“They have the docks occupied,” Lewis stated as we flew over the city. “You’re going to have to jump.”
“Out of the ship?” I asked sounding more stupid then I should have. “Where would we land?”
“Usually we’d do this with a road. But as you can see, there’s an obvious lack of roads on this colony. So a rooftop will have to do. Actually, that one will do.” Lewis said to me as he brought the ship closer towards a roof of a towering building.
“Ashley can’t jump! She’s had no training and doesn’t have any armor on. She’ll get seriously hurt if she does it.” Dr. Kelley pointed out.
“Then get her in the extra armor, she’ll need it later anyway,” Redfield said.
“No time! Fighter on our six!” Lewis yelled as the ship jerked to the left. Stevens, Mann, and Jones went into a frenzy in the turret seats.
“I can bring Ashley down with me,” Yargnam said.
“We hardly know you and we need Ashley alive. Can we really trust you with her life?” Lewis replied.
“Not all of the Wereesh are part of the Grantuun,” Yargnam said in defense.
“I trust him,” I said. This whole thing is about me; I should have some say in this.
“Alright. But Joel has to make the jump with you two,” Lewis agreed. “It’s going to be dangerous out there, take this with you.” He handed me a suitcase that put a strain on my arms. “Its armor and a rifle. Equip it when you’re able.”
“Yes sir,” I said. Feeling like I am part of the UPDS I nodded my head and held the suitcase against my chest.
“Joel, take good care of her.”
“Yes sir. I won’t let you down,” Joel said as Yargnam wrapped his large arms around us. The back door opened and the stale air rushed out and the opening. The sight of the fighters gaining on us made my stomach sink lower than I ever thought possible. My grip on the suitcase of armor loosened and Lewis came over to us right before the jump.
“Captain Redfield and Dr. Kelley will be jumping approximately four buildings away from your drop zone. Once you land, your mission will be to meet up with them at ground level. Understood?” Joel and I both nodded. “Good. On my mark.” My heart began to pound. “Three.” Yargnam’s grip tightened. “Two.” The ship got hit and began to wobble as a trail of smoke appeared behinds us. “One.” My heart pounded and my eyes shut. “Mark!” The metal of the ship vanished beneath my feet and gravity brought me towards the planet. I heard Yargnam’s feet hit the roof before I felt it. When I did, I opened my eyes and watched the ship I just jumped off fly on, I was two figures drop out. That must be Redfield and Dr. Kelley. More fighters descended and followed the one that I just jumped out of. A large beam came from orbit and struck right into the ship. Like fireworks, it blew apart in a fireball of pieces. The enemy fighters broke off and doubled back toward where I’m standing.
“Take cover!” Joel yelled as he grabbed me and dragged me inside the building. My arms are weak because of the suitcase. I can’t imagine putting this armor on if its this heavy already. Yargnam stood in the door and brought up a shield. “We’ll get your armor on you now.” Oh great, heavy armor time. The breastplate went on first, then the arm guards that covered my bicep and forearm, then the leg plating, and finally, the helmet. On the inside of the visor I had a compass, an overview of my health status, an ammo counter, and markers to show were Joel was.
“How’s the HUD? Is everything working?” Joel asked.
“The what?” I replied.
“Head’s Up Display, on your visor.”
“Oh, the compass and stuff?”
“I guess it works then. We need to find Redfield now. The map I have up shows that a good crossing point is a balcony on the 34th floor. There are about 70 floors here and we’re on the roof. Grab your gun and lets get to work.” Joel said, taking command. I’ve never seen him act like this before.
We started running down the stairs and through cubicles. This must be some form of office building.
“Come in, do you read me? Respond,” Redfield’s voice said into my helmet.
“I hear you,” Joel said.
“Good, Ash can you?”
“Yeah, I can hear you,” I replied as we made a dash down a flight of emergency stairs.
“Alright. You guys have a problem.”
“You never have anything nice to say, do you?” Joel said. Echoes of a door opening up down the flight of stairs. “Shit, we have company.”
“I was just about to tell you that.”
“Next time, please don’t tell us we have a problem, just tell us the gorram problem!” Joel said, making a fuss. We have to fight through about 25 floors of alien and human cultists. This sucks.
“Guys, there’s a drop ship on the roof and I highly doubt its friendly. Get the hell out of there!”
“Yargnam, get us a shield,” I said looking back, expecting to find him. He’s gone. His voice enters my head: “Ashley, I have the enemies on the roof taken care of, meet up with your captain now. Stay safe.”
A large explosion from above shook the building and debris started falling down the stair well. Yargnam is gone now too… Dust began to fall on me as the building started to shake and get very hot from a fire above.
“Ashley, we need to get the hell out of here!” Joel yelled as he started running down the stairs. I followed him down and into the mass of Grantuun coming our way. He started shooting since he’s a soldier. I hesitated.
“There has to be another way out of this mess,” I said, hiding behind Joel while he fired into the enemy.
“Right now there’s only one option, help me shoot,” he yelled back while this mess was going on.
“I don’t think I can,” I said. I’m not a soldier and the only person I even attacked was a zombie.
“These are the people that fucked up your life!”
“Motherfuckers.” The word came out underneath my breath as rage built up inside me. Crouching down next to Joel, I send out a barrage of plasma into those bastards.
“Remind me never to piss you off,” Joel said after the first wave was downed. “Lets move!” Reloading, I moved down the stairs and around the bodies crowding the stairwell.
“You’ve got more entering from below,” Redfield’s voice said. “A lot more. Is there any other path you can take?”
“No, the alien blocked the roof exit and we can’t get anywhere else since this city was designed for parkour, which neither of us can do.” Joel said. He’s starting to panic. I’m starting to panic. Shit, I’m going to die! Or it’s going to be a repeat of last time and they’re just going to torture me. I just want to go back.
A new item blinked on my HUD. How could I forget? I’m still wearing the armband! “Joel, I know what we can do!”
“Die?”
“No, go back!”
“Where?”
“When.”
“You still have your armband?”
“Yeah,” I said. “Don’t you?”
“I took it off,” he said as footsteps echoed through the stairs.
“I’m not going to leave you behind.”
“Redfield, make her leave without me. We can’t give them what they want and they want her.” Joel said as he started to fire into the second wave of Grantuun cultists. There are a lot more this time.
“Ashley, you need to go,” Redfield said. “They want you and you if you really are the only one who can stop them, we can’t let them have you. You need to go back in time to save yourself and possibly the universe.” Tears fill my eyes and my knees get wobbly.
“I can’t leave him behind, he’ll be killed!” I say while on my knees crying.
“He won’t die, Dr. Kelley and I are almost there. Just go.” His voice faded out and shots came over the speaker.
“Ashley, go back now. I will be fine, you heard The Captain,” Joel said as he took cover behind a doorframe to an emergency exit.
“Fine, I don’t want to. But I will.” The time travel holo-screen appeared in front of me and I entered the date I want into the holo-pad. January 22nd 2010 sounds good to me. It’s the day after I stopped everything, people would be used to seeing me around now. Enemies appeared in the doorway as I pressed “OK” and was swallowed into the back abyss of space-time.
“Good bye.”
“So Captain, what’s the plan?” Lewis said as I braced myself against the pilot seat as the ship jerked back and forth.
