On Stranger Tides

Now I see two large problems with this film.

One: The charm with the past trilogy was the possible love triangle and the interplay between the three lead characters. Now two of them are gone, and while Jack is most definitely the "star," having stolen the hearts of not just Davy Jones, but millions of audience members, I don't think he can hold a show on his own. There was a sort of formula with the previous members, and I don't feel like the new cast is going to be able to appreciate that.

Two: Depp seems to be growing bored with the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, and it is rather noticeable in this trailer. His acting already seems somewhat... lacking in the deppth that brought life to Jack in the original three films. I'm not entirely sure if this is on the part of Depp himself, or on the part of the series writers completely succumbing to the cash cow that was birthed from our dear Captain.

With that said, I'm a huge nerd about the original trilogy, and pretty much anything with Jack Sparrow's name (let alone his face) on it gains my instant approval. Incuding the less-than-inspired and tedious-to-navigate Port Royal world from Kingdom Hearts II. I will eagerly be setting sail for the cinema the instant this movie debuts. With that said, I will tip a glass in the hopes that my fears are proven to be false.

I'm pretty sure that in this movie Penelope Cruz is Jack's new love interest. To complicate things, I think she's supposed to be Black Beard's daughter. So theres the new complicated love interest thingy...

Well no, it's just different characters won't play off as well as the original ones. The first set of leads were written and developed together to bounce around uniquely with one another. The problem with Jack being the only one left is that we now have to create new characters AROUND him instead of WITH him, which has been the downfall of countless other movies. And books. And comics. And games. And Hedgehogs.

Barbosa and Gibbs are returning too Jack might be the star, but he shouldn't be the only focus

[Kriven]

Barbpsa should be good, Gibbs was always kind of bland. And while Jack isn't the only focus, he was always the leading factor in his scenes.

I like Barbosa and I was extremely glad when they brought him back. And it was a huge twist!
