The bandit leader snorted and laughed. He was always fond of a challenge. The breath that escaped from his unclean lips was a pale blue color, even though they were in the middle of a desert. He reached into a satchel that hung from his waist and pulled out a sapphire gem with a shape that Athromir couldn't make out. Upon seeing it slammed upon the ground however, Athromir watched in astonishment as a large owl flew up from a cloud of blue smoke. It pierced his mind with its gaze and flew at an accelerating rate towards him.

As Lufael's hand quivered on her weapon, the wizened bird-man smiled sagely. He slowly pulled his sword from its sheath on his waist and dropped with a clink on the tavern floor. "Georhell has taught you well my dear. I mean you no harm, but judging from your erratic flight pattern, you intend to wear my heart out."
While Lufael stood, the elderly harpy continued to talk. "I was sent by King Nagon, who was quite close with Sir Georhell. He is in need of champions, and asked for you specifically. Being the only harpy in the capital, I was sent to find you, and have been trailing you for the past few days. You are not easy to track!"

As the guard stood vacantly, he felt his feet get swept out underneath him, and then felt a blade whiz across his throat. Blood trickled ever so slowly from his wound, and within the minute he was dead. However, in that minute, the smoke had dissipated, and the other guards saw their dead comrade upon the ground, as well as the small rodential figure scurrying through the streets. They called to one another with vigor, and charged wholeheartedly after the convict.

Nuushalin picked up the letter and examined it. Something didn't feel right, not only about the letter, but also about his surroundings, almost as if the letter was a distraction and he was in a trap. Saving the letter for later, he stuffed it into his bag along with the blanket that was once his friend's. With his short sword drawn, he cautiously continued his exploration of the destroyed city. As he grows closer to the castle where the royal family lived, he noticed something. Fresh foot prints in the ash. Looking back, he saw that the figure he followed to the letter left no tracks in the ash. He decided to follow the new set of prints to this more recent person. Maybe they can tell him what happened here.

Athromir regained his composure quickly. He whistled loudly, and a screech resounded from the sky. Nothlit rocketed down from his circle overhead, intercepting the owl in an instant. The pair tumbled through the air out of Athromir's sight, who returned his focus to the leader. Again he muttered and drew the runes, but this time he drew with much more ferocity. The sky darkened, and thunder clapped overhead. Then it started to rain.

(Sorry about the wait guys) As Nuushalin walked, the ash seemed to follow. It swept in waves across the ground, even while the wind remained silent. With each step, clouds grew bigger and bigger, and eventually, a gust blew across the deserted ruins. This gust swept up the accumulating char, and then it moved into a large shape. A bear, larger than an elephant, formed from the ash with a roar, it's sooty bristles quivering in the fresh wind. It advanced on Nuushalin, smoke pouring from its nostrils.

With a hearty cry, the giant swung a hammer into the ground. A crack began to form, but before it reached Arthromir, a blue light sprung up from the sky. It shot through to the heavens, and soon the falling rain shifted quickly to a blizzard. White flecks accumulated on the leader's back, and he charged forward again, renewed with the strength of the storm.

Athromir stood his ground against the charging brute. He now understood exactly how to defeat his enemy. Quickly and aggressively, he sketched across the air with his finger, muttering words more ancient then his lineage could be traced. He felt a warmth grow within his chest, which extended itself down his arms and finally manifested in his hand; the orange and white ball of fire licking the tips of his fingers. A devilish smile flashed across his face as he stared his enemy down.

Nuushalin quickly pulled out his bow and an arrow and took aim for the beast's head. With a twang, the arrow flew through the air, the bear evaded it and retaliated. Opening its mouth, flames shot out towards Nuushalin. Jumping out of the way and rolling behind cover, he drew another arrow. Aiming, this time for the bear's chest, he let the string go and the arrow lodged itself into the chest. The monster seemed unaffected by the attack and continued to breathe flames in his direction. He dropped his bow on the ground and pulled out his short sword. Jumping out of cover, he swung at the bear's right hind leg. The beast let out a roar and swung with his giant paws. Nuushalin rolled between the legs of the monster and got behind it. After sheathing his sword, he grabbed into the hairs on the back and climbed up. The beast thrashed around as the hair was pulled from the weight of the elf. Pulling out his knife, he reached the top of the monster and jabbed it into the neck. He dragged the knife around to where he was and the monster fell forward. Nuushalin was thrown forward and landed on his back. He stood up and look back at the bear, then at the tracks before him. He grabbed his bow and started following the tracks. They lead into a building. He walked up the steps and took a deep breath. The door creaked opened and he took his first steps inside.
